Based in Barcelona since 2004, OBREAL is an international association that brings together Universities and Associations of Universities in Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa, the Middle East, India and Asia with the shared vision to build sustainable interregional South – South – North(s) political dialogue and cooperation in higher education and related matters based upon mutual respect and knowledge sharing.
We do not intend to define (even less to impose) a common or single policy, but to promote a dialogue and cooperation between different regions and accept the existence of different policy approaches.
OBREAL’s activity is premised upon the assumption that the political and demographic basis for international cooperation (and the leading role in it) lies in the South and not in the North. Emphasizing South – South collaboration avoids the use of the term Global South: there are different Souths with different realities and profiles that must establish dialogue and must cooperate; as there are different Norths with different characteristics and realities as well – this is why we use the expression North(s).
OBREAL is committed to work in a cross-cutting, multilingual, and cooperative manner to create joint, interregional, and innovative solutions to common development challenges shared among different regions in the north and in the south.
