We strengthen cooperation on micro-credentials across the SADC region
Obreal took part in the final conference of the PoMiSA project, an Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education initiative that brings together universities and ministries from South Africa, Mauritius, Namibia, and Lesotho around the topic of micro-credentials.
PoMiSA, which has explored leveraging of and policy making for micro-credentials in the SADC region, demonstrates an important synergy with regional and continental initiatives and projects like HAQAA, which simultaneously supports recognition between h igher education systems through tools like credit transfer (ACTS). The PoMiSA project has mapped micro-credential trends and needs in the partner countries, informed by experiences in the European Higher Education Area. As one key policy area is that of life-long learning and skilling, synergies also exist with the UniCoCreate project, coordinated by THENSA with OBREAL as a key partner, also alongside authorities in South Africa, Namibia and Losotho.
The project, focused on micro-credentials and lifelong learning, strengthens ties between universities and ministries across SADC countries
The lessons of PoMiSA will be taken forward in UniCoCreate as universities co-create curricula with industry and explore joint programmes and credentials. UniCoCreate has also been specifically recognized at the SADC Ministerial Summit for education, science, research and innovation in June.
The final PoMiSA conference, which took place in Mauritius on 16-16 October and was co-hosted by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), has also been a means for Obreal to further affirm its partnership with the Ministry of Education, HEC and the Mauritian universities, in pursuit of shared objectives, and promoting Mauritius as a hub for higher education, research and innovation.
