About the 2023 edition in Buenos Aires
The first edition of the Interregional Dialogue on Education and Development between Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa, and Europe was held from March 29 to 31, 2023, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The event was organized by Obreal, the Ministry of Education of the Argentine Republic, and the African Union, with the support of several partner institutions.
This edition was hosted across several venues that reflected the diversity and reach of the meeting: the Ministry of Education of Argentina, the National University of the Northwest of the Province of Buenos Aires, the National University of San Martín, and the National University of Hurlingham.
Participation and key actors
The Dialogue brought together high-level representatives from across the Global South and the Global North. Among the distinguished participants were Argentina’s Minister of Education, Jaime Perczyk; the African Union Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Mohammed Belhocine; Antigua and Barbuda’s Minister of Education, Daryll Matthew; the Director of Education and Cooperation at Senegal’s Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation, Olivier Sagna; Honduras’s Deputy Minister of Education, Jaime Rodríguez; the Secretary General of the Association of African Universities, Olusola Oyewole; and Argentina’s Secretary of University Policies, Oscar Alpa, among others.
Results of the 2023 edition
The conclusions of this first edition were compiled in a document that marks the beginning of interregional cooperation around the shared challenges of education and development.
The recordings of the sessions held in Buenos Aires provide an accurate record of the discussions and contributions made during the Dialogue. Each host venue contributed its own space for debate, and the audiovisual content is available for consultation.
